Happiness

Happiness is a radiant glow that emanates from within me.

I have been relentlessly pursuing a myriad of activities to fill up my time and achieve a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. I attend numerous classes, swing a golf club, sketch like Picasso, chant Chopin, work like a machine, build websites, learn languages, and devour books like a bibliophile, among other things.

In my frantic search for happiness, I have been darting around like a puppet, seeking the elusive state of "Flow" through ceaseless toiling. Alas, despite all my efforts, happiness eluded me. I have published papers, excelled in my academic pursuits, crafted a breathtaking website, created stunning works of art, and delivered memorable recitals. Yet, at the end of the day, an unrelenting emptiness consumed me. When the sun sets, I'm left with an emptiness that's louder than a rock concert.

On Fridays, when the week comes to an end and I have no more assignments to complete, I am left alone in a place of solitude and contemplation. As I gaze into the mirror, I see my eyes, fraught with anxiety and exhaustion, my once-pristine eye-liners now smudged. In that moment, I wonder how I can transform the negative energy within me into positivity, hope, calmness, and ease.

I began reading books and realized that true success lies not in external achievements, but in the wealth of one's inner world. Thus, I turned inward and replaced restless worrying at night with mindful preparation for a restful sleep. I replaced busy mornings with peaceful solitude at 5 am, bringing me calmness and clarity for the day ahead. I replaced slackness with the discipline of a 5:30 am gym run every day, and transformed hopelessness into hopefulness, seeing every challenge as an opportunity.

Every day, I take the time to journal and reflect on my emotions. I am kind to myself, allowing time to heal and recover, and to bond with loved ones, seek guidance from mentors, and gain insights from great authors. I follow my heart, prioritize my health, nurture a positive mindset, and always remind myself to be compassionate towards others.

Through these practices, I see a positive transformation within me, and I will continue to challenge myself to make them a habit, spreading the light of happiness in everything I do.
